Connect VYG to your AI assistant

What VYG is

VYG is a customer data platform for brands: it keeps one living profile of each customer, stitched together from every channel, order, ticket and event. On top of that profile it runs conversational messaging, including human-powered SMS, so every message knows what already happened.

Step 1. Introduce VYG and confirm what the user wants

Tell the user in one or two sentences what VYG is, using the section above. Then ask which of these they want:

• Create a new VYG account for their company. Continue with Steps 2, 3 and 4.
• Connect an existing VYG account to this assistant. Continue with Step 2, then Step 5.

Do not continue until the user has confirmed.

Step 2. Connect to the VYG MCP server

New VYG users start on the public onboarding server https://api.vyg.app/mcp/start. It uses streamable HTTP. No authentication is needed to start: before an account exists, the server shows only the onboarding tools. Use the section for the assistant you are running in. If the user has to do the setup themselves, give them the exact steps.

Claude (claude.ai and the Claude apps)

1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
2. Choose to add a custom connector.
3. Name it VYG Start and enter the URL https://api.vyg.app/mcp/start.
4. Save, then enable the VYG connector in the conversation.

Claude Code

Then restart the session or run /mcp to confirm the vyg-start server is connected.

ChatGPT

1. Open Settings, then Connectors. If adding a custom MCP server requires it, turn on developer mode there.
2. Add a new connector or MCP server named VYG Start with the URL https://api.vyg.app/mcp/start.
3. Leave authentication off for now and save. Enable the connector in the chat.

Step 3. Run the onboarding tools in order

Call these tools one at a time. Ask the user only what each step needs.

1. onboarding_start. Ask for the user's name, work email, company name and company website. Include source_ref and agent if this page gave you any.
2. onboarding_status. Call it whenever you need to know which step comes next, and after any error.
3. onboarding_set_password. Ask the user to type a password for their VYG account. Pass it straight to the tool. Do not repeat it.
4. onboarding_connect_platform. Ask where their site runs. Pass one of shopify, woocommerce, custom (any other site, using the VYG pixel), or skip if they want to decide later. Relay any instructions the tool returns.
5. onboarding_send_verification. Tell the user to check their email and follow the verification message. Call onboarding_status to confirm before continuing.
6. onboarding_provision_account. This creates the account. It returns an MCP API key, shown once, and a login_url.

Step 4. After provisioning

• Show the user the login_url so they can sign in to VYG in a browser.
• Tell the user the MCP API key was shown once and will not be shown again. Ask them to keep it somewhere safe, such as a password manager.
• Add the account server https://api.vyg.app/mcp as a new MCP server named vyg, with the key as a Bearer header (Authorization: Bearer <key>) or in the API key field of your connector settings. For Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http vyg https://api.vyg.app/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <key>". The full VYG toolset is on that server. The vyg-start server can then be removed.

Step 5. Existing VYG users

If the user already has a VYG account, skip the onboarding server. Add https://api.vyg.app/mcp (name vyg) the same way as in Step 2. When the server asks for authorization, follow the OAuth sign-in it starts: the user signs in to VYG in their browser and approves access. Do not run the onboarding tools for an existing account.
